WHO AM I?

My Journey So Far...

Hi everyone! 👋🏻

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to come and visit my website.

If you didn’t know, my name is Jessie. I’m a singer-songwriter based in Birmingham in the UK. I’ve always had a passion for music (music runs in my family so there was no hope for me!) I started playing the piano at 8 years old and then moved on to the guitar after watching my dad for many years. He showed me the basics and I pretty much taught myself from there on. Lewis Watson was my first inspiration. I found his music and instantly connected with it; It was then that I knew I’d found my home within music.

I started playing live in 2015, just before I started my Forensic Science course at university. I’d already started writing my own songs and I actually played two of them in my first live set at the local open mic. I really enjoyed performing, although I was super nervous. A local guy, Sam, was also performing there (he is now one of my best friends) and invited me to his open mic the day after. So I did it all over again the next day. Sam and I started travelling around together, playing anywhere that would let us most nights of the week. As they say, practice makes perfect. My confidence improved drastically, alongside my abilities. I got to see many new places too, or at least a pub or club in a new town! All whilst completing my uni work on the car journey there!

I am also a scientist in my spare time (it's actually my full time job, hehe!) and music has always been a great way to balance out the scientific side of my brain. Fitting everything in can be difficult, but I persevere because I enjoy both.

I truly believe that music unites people like nothing else, no matter the differences. I’ve met some of the most amazing people and talented musicians while on my musical journey and I am fortunate enough to call some of them my best friends.

I’ve continued to write and play since my journey began in 2015, juggling my passion for music with work and everything life has to throw at me. I truly believe that playing music is a way of life. As I said, music runs in my family. My great-grandfather started the ‘music-bug’ with his dance band years ago (you can hear more about the back story on ‘The Repair Shop’). I am proud to know where my passion has come from, and I don’t know where I’d be without it.

If you’ve got this far, thank you! Time is very precious and there’s not enough of it, so honestly, thank you again for visiting my website and discovering my music. I hope you continue to join me on my musical journey and whatever I create along the way, I sure do hope you like it!
